Joan poses in several swimsuit/dress items during her first photo shoot- terrific size and shapes, with very good definition for off-season. A WPW reader met Joan in a gym in Florida in 1983, saying he had not seen 'this type of woman bodybuilder yet', as she emphasized size and strength in the young era of bodybuilding which featured smaller, leaner women. So, these black and whites were taken in 1983, when Joan was in her very early 20's, and indeed show her in impressive off-season condition. At about 5'5" she was around 160+ pounds, yet showing off very good definition, definitely the first of her kind. Joan did lean down for a few local/regional contests in Florida, and did a couple of the strength contests, but never 'went national'.
